Three Things You Need To Know About Installing an Electric Vehicle Charger

Whether you are on board with the idea or not, electric cars are fast becoming the future of road transportation. More and more companies are installing electric car charging points for business purposes – helping to keep their employees and customers happy.

With the Government pushing to reduce high emissions vehicles, there has never been a better time to get to know all about charging points. For example, did you know that not all electric vehicles have the same type of charging plug? The team at Vital EV Solutions have created this guide covering three important things you need to know about car charging point installation.

Different types of charge

Depending on the charging point, an electric car can go from empty to full in anywhere from 1 hour to 31 hours.

Slow charging

As the name suggests, these 3.7kW charging stations take the longest time to fully charge your vehicle.  Charging times will vary by vehicle make/model but as an example, a BMW I3 will take around 11 hours to charge fully whereas a Tesla Model S will take 21 hours.

Fast charging 7 to 22kw

You will find these car charging points in locations where you can leave your car for an extended period for example, at work, shopping centres and supermarkets. Using the examples above a BMW I3 will take around 4.5 hours and a Tesla Model S will take around 11 hours to fully charge using a 7kw charging point.

Rapid DC charging

Rapid DC charging has become increasingly popular for EV owners. This is because of its ability to provide up to 80% charge within as little as 30 minutes e.g  (35 minutes in the case of the BMW I3 and 2 hours for a 100% for a Tesla Model S using a 50kw charging point), making it an ideal solution to charge your car if you are in a hurry.

Incentives to change

The Government is pushing the use of electric vehicles as hard as they can in order to reduce emissions and the carbon footprint produced by cars. Therefore, it’s highly likely that you will find a suitable Government scheme to support your EV charging point installation project EV charging point installation service.

To give greater insight, a Government-funded grant is currently capped at up to £500 maximum per charger.

They can be installed almost anywhere

At work

It is becoming increasingly popular to install EV charging stations at work facilities due to the ability to charge your car for a few hours before needing to drive again. Workplace charging incentive schemes (WCS) are also available for many employers, which means there has never been a better time to convince your boss to contact EV charger installers – such as Vital EV Solutions.

At home

Your home is one of the best places to install an EV charging port, as it provides complete convenience. Aside from the low cost, you have the flexibility to charge your vehicle whenever you need to, including during the night.

In public spaces

Public charging has become increasingly popular, for example in supermarkets, shopping centres and other public car parks. Whilst many are free to use you may have to pay a small fee.
